Canadian Walleye - Day 2

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of rolling thunder.  It was not a good sign.  As we woke up and got breakfast ready the thunder faded and a drizzle ensued.  Finally, at 10:30 we determined that the lightening was gone for good and that it wasn't going to rain any harder, so we donned our rain gear and took off!

The fishing was slower than the previous day, and the size of the fish was noticeably smaller.  Despite the conditions, we were still able to catch plenty of fish, including some big ones.  We also kept our limit of fish.  There is a slot from 18-21 inches on the lake we were fishing.  We don't like to eat fish over the slot, so we try to get them as close to the lower level of the slot as we can.  Although the day was slower, we were able to catch a full limit of 14 fish between 17.5 and 18 inches.  Mmm mmm, good!  Here are some of the pictures:

A sauger, cousin of the walleye.  They are smaller and can sometimes be a nuisance, but they are a neat fish nonetheless.

The Highlight:

Day two was all about the experience.  Boating out to the spot while rain pelts your rain gear is special.  Fishing in the middle of the Canadian wilderness with the patter of rain the only audible sound is a pretty neat experience, and I was happy to be able to experience it with my family.
