Meet the newest member of our family: The kayak!

Monday, before our Tuesay departure, we made a big investment: A kayak!  We had been talking about buying one since we moved here, but we just couldn't get ourselves to do it.  Here are the problems we faced and the solutions we found:

 1.  Problem: Storage
Solution:  We ordered a wall mount that will fit in our bedroom.  The only limitation is that the kayak had to be under 10'3".  I know what you're thinking, "A kayak in your bedroom?"  Don't worry though, it will match the bag of duck decoys, three suitcases, and bed without the correct size blankets/quilt just fine.  Don't you wish you lived in a 2 bedroom apartment with no storage?
2.  Problem:  Transportation
Solution:  We bought an old Yakima bike rack off Craig's list.  It came with Q-clips for our Civic, and we ordered the Q-clips for our Matrix.  Problem solved.  I can now say it works great, except that over 50 mph it makes a loud moaning sound on top of the car.  Oh well.
3.  Problem:  Excessories
Solution:  Christmas!!  My parents bought us a nice paddle and a paddle tether.  We bought a decent kayaking life jacket.
4.  Problem:  Money
Solution:  Buy the cheapest (decent) kayak you can find and rationalize.  A man has got to fish, right?
5.  Problem:  Only 1 person can fish at a time.
Solution:  Still a problem!  We figured that even if we got a canoe or small boat, the C-ster wouldn't be up to an all day float anyway, so even if we had a two person vessel, only one of us would get to use it at any one time, so why bother with it?  Plus the kayak is much easier to transport and store.

So there you have it.  I know you're probably saying, "Well laddy-flippin'-da", but it was a big investment to us so BACK OFF!  We're excited about it!
