Warm Water Warm-up with White Bass

I had a slow day at work today, so I spent some time on the Internet looking at places to fish here in Mississippi.  I noticed a few people talking about white bass spawning in the rivers.  Since the day was slow I got out of work early.  Driving home I realized that it was a beautiful day.  I called Cheryl and told her that we should go fishing. When I got home she fed the C-ster while I grabbed my spinning rod and gear, and we were on the road.

Cell Phone picture.  Not too bad.  New species for me!

We got to the only place on a creek around here that I know of, but had never fished.  On my third cast I was pretty sure I got a hit.  On my fifth cast, I had a fish on!  When I got it in it was a decent white bass.  I''ve only caught white bass one other time in my life and it was through the ice in Utah!  I was pretty excited.  About five minutes later I caught another small one.

I took the C-ster and gave the rod to Cheryl and she fished for a while with no luck.  Finally I fished for another 15 minutes and caught one more small white bass.  I was pretty stoked.  I went to a place I had never fished before, fished for a fish I had never caught before on soft water, and enjoyed a great evening outdoors with my family.  Pretty sweet!  Now my interest is piqued, though...how do I catch them on a fly rod?  I betcha there's more to come on that!

  1. Clousers... or my favorite- the Seaducer.
Lots of white bass fun to be had at the spillways below Arkabutla and Sardis dams.
